Building Gravel Roads…

The last few days I’ve been building gravel roads over to our new home. Going across the pasture, I first cut down 10″ to 1′ where I got down to solid hard clay. Then I drove over that to really pack it down.

Next, I had a rock truck bring me 3″ rock and spread it down this cut down road until filled up to original ground level. Now we will continue to drive over this, then after rains, continue to keep driving over it to pack down until solid.

After months of driving over this I will then place 1″ road rock over that to smooth out and make a really nice solid driveway for years to come. Depending on the kind of winter we have and the moisture we get, depends on how much rock this driveway will require.

By digging down close to one foot, it will make this driveway/road to our house much more solid than if the gravel would have been right on top of the dirt and sod.
