I bought this Stihl MS 261C Chainsaw last year after another new I had wasn’t getting the job done. This new 261C is one bad dude!
As soon as I fired this saw up, I new right away it was a totally different saw than anything I’ve had thus far.

The only disadvantage is the hefty price tag, but if you cut lots of wood like we do, then a really good high end saw will pay off eventually. This Stihl MS 261C chainsaw with 18″ bar is fairly light compared to most and is a cutting maniac.
See pictures below for a few great features. The biggest feature is being high performance engine that has a round larger air filter. This air filter can be pulled off and blown out quickly and easily. This motor screams and doesn’t bog down very easy.
Check out this previous Stihl MS 250 chainsaw (video) and you will see a huge difference in the air filter alone. There is absolutely no comparison in these 2 chainsaws. The 261C will absolutely run circles around the MS 250, and without continuing to clean the filter each time you use it.
Another great feature on the MS 261C is the chain adjusting nuts on the side cover. These nots stay fixed to the side cover. This is so nice and handy! Never worry about losing these nuts and believe it or not, the chain adjusting is easier and faster, as well as removing and replacing chains.
In the big picture, you get what you pay for! The MS 250 is almost half the price of the MS 261C, but it’s only half the saw too (in my personal opinion).
If you are looking for a light (very light) duty saw that is fairly inexpensive, then the Stihl MS 250 is the one for you. If you are going to cut lots of wood like we do, and you want one that is trouble free, then the Stihl MS 261C is worth every dollar you will pay, and the one you want.
