Cabin Addition Project…

Share This Post With A Friend

I wanted to share our little cabin Addition project. If you will remember back a few months Rhonda got a 12’x20′ shed for absolutely free. The thing was is we had to go and get it, and what a job that turned into.

After hauling the loader tractor to the free shed location, literally tearing the shed apart and having to make numerous trips back and forth to get the two Shed halves, we ended up with lots of time invested and several dollars in fuel.

Cheap Cabin Addition Project

We will have some money invested into this cabin Addition Project, but it will be very little compared to what it would have without the freebies. Yes, all of the free lumber and materials from the tornado/storm recovery as well as the free shed Rhonda got for us.

Today is the first chance we’ve had to work on our little cabin Addition Project due to our very busy schedules. With existing lawn care accounts and new accounts, it’s made it impossible for us to even take off for family vacation that we had planned for this week…

Many people don’t understand business if they’ve never been in business for themselves, but those that have been understand perfectly. When you have businesses of your own and get new accounts, you basically need to bend over backwards for them…even if it means cancelling a meaningful family vacation.

Vacation or Work?

As mentioned above…the obvious, a business person does whatever they have to when it comes to running a successful business. Even if it means cancelling your vacation.

Check out the cabin Addition Project pictures below:

Then we hand dug in each corner and down the center for these large post to go into the ground. Large hedge post were also placed at the halfway point on each side and down the center as well.

Why Not Sit This Addition In Cement Blocks?

Most people that do cabin Additions or even new cabin structures will simply build on top of the ground. They will place their corners on top of cement blocks that sit on top of the ground.

Of course this is much faster and easier, but it isn’t secure in the sense of storms or high winds. We don’t want ours to move, so we decided to dig these post holes 2 ft deep and then tamp the post in and secure to floor framing by using screws and bolts. Maybe a bit overkill, but little cabin will NOT blow away.

What About Using Gravel Inside The Floor Framing?

In the pictures below you will see how we are now adding gravel inside the floor/structure. This not only makes the floor joists way more secure, but it also keeps the rodents and varmints out from under your cabin…

Once we are finished there will be gravel all the way around the structure. This will help keep critters from digging around and trying to burrow their way under. But it will also help keep the structure dry and secure.

More to come from our little cabin Addition Project. Check back over the next several days for more pictures and updates.

Always do your best,
