Free Shed – Just Come and Get It…

Have you ever had anyone tell you they have a free shed…just come and get it?

My wife is always on Facebook swap and shop finding cool stuff…and often free. She just found this ad for a free shed and it was first come first serve. Well, she got the free shed and the guy said just come and get it from our back yard.

This free shed was a 12’x20′ in really good condition. The problem was, just come and get it wasn’t as easy as it sounded at first. This 12’x20′ shed isn’t that easy to load and haul without taking it partially apart…unless of course you have a crane…lol.

It just so happens that we have a cabin here at Pin Oaks Farm that is 12’x12′ and we thought this free shed would be perfect to just set up on the north end of our existing cabin and open each end, attach them and have a nice large 12’x32′ cabin.

Sounds easy…right?

Yea, we thought so too! We got over there to load up and haul home…a whopping 6 miles, just to figure out that it was to large and heavy for our loader tractor to pick up so we could load on the trailer and haul it home in one piece.

This Free Shed Just Turned Into (not so free)

Luckily for us when they built this shed, they actually built two 10′ sections and then nailed them together, which allowed us to split the 20′ long shed into two 10′ sheds and then haul home on our trailer one at a time.

Gas and Time Well Spent

All in all it is still a free shed with some gas ⛽️ and some of our time invested into it. Even if we decided to just use it for lumber, it was still worth the gas and time it took to get this free shed home (to Pin Oaks Farm).

Below is a picture before we touched it…

We ended up removing flooring, shingles and roof sheeting as well. Next we split the 20′ long shed into two 10′ sheds in order to be able to handle and haul it.

After removing some of the sheeting and flooring we noticed water damage, so it needed to be pulled apart anyway. Now we can make it right and get it sealed up tight.

As expected we was able to get the first 12’x10′ half of this “free shed” back to Pin Oaks Farm and off of the trailer. As you may have guessed though, the tractor is still over at the place where we was getting the free shed from, so it was some creativity and brute force to get the first half off of the trailer without the help of our tractor and loader.

Next was to go back and get the second 12’x10′ half of the free shed and get it and the tractor back home to Pin Oaks Farm…

free shedfree shedUnfortunately I totally forgot to snap a few photos of the second half of the Shed being loaded. Dark was moving in quickly on us, so we was rushing to get this second half home before dark…

Due to the location of this free shed we was able to take back roads except for the last few miles which was a major blacktop road.

In the last picture above here you can see that we are back to Pin Oaks Farm and it’s dark. One more trip back over to get the tractor and drive it back home. Tomorrow we can unload the trailer using the tractor instead of creativity and brute force. 🙂

This will also make a really nice cabin/suite for family and friends to stay in while at Pin Oaks Farm. We will continue to add pictures and videos of our progress on this free shed…son to be cabin add on.
