Good news…Our sweet corn is planted, and fertilized.
The first step was to spray the wheat cover crop and kill it, then I planted right through the wheat. The last step was spreading the fertilizer right over the corn field.
The soil test came back really good, but I gave it a shot of nitrogen and phosphate to give the corn a boost. This was all done over a week ago, then the rains came, and today it was dry enough to plant the second planting of the sweet corn.
By spreading out the plantings, it helps to not have all of it coming ready to pick at the same time. I planted the very same variety as the last several years, which is Obsession 2. This is a really high quality multi colored/bicolored sweet corn, which I believe to be one of the best out there.
Of course many say that the peaches and cream is the best, but they are wrong! It’s just because they’ve never had the Obsession 2…lol. Everyone has their own choice and favorites, which is perfectly fine.
