Ideas for Watering Mums

I wanted to share some ideas for watering mums. There are many ways to water mums, and some work, while others actually hurt your mums, and make them die earlier than normal.

Ideas for Watering Mums

-Irrigation type system. This is what folks with large numbers of mums do. It is using water lines and piks installed in the dirt and root system of the plant.

-Using watering pans under the plant. This method works well because of the shallow root system and plant can suck water from pan as needed. Pouring water down under flowers just over lip of pot. This method works well, but is such a pain to do once the plants grow large. Very time consuming method.

-Watering over the top of plant. NOT recommended! This often times reduces the plant life a great deal. Often times this method will make flowers swell and then get soggy and then turn brown and then black.

-The best way to water your mums is obviously the #1 listed above. The next best is #2 method and this one is the best way for those that are only taking care of a mum or two.

The #2 Watering method mentioned above is the watering saucers/pan pictures right below here.

  • These ideas for watering mums have worked the best for us and many others that we know and have tried themselves.
  • As seen in the pictures above you can see the water lines and then a single line off of main line to each plant. This trickle method is done in the mornings and again each evening. Depending on how hot it is, the watering is done each time for 30 minutes to an hour at 40# to 45# of water pressure.
  • To regulate water pressures, I’ve found that a simple/cheap RV water pressure regulator works best. These are pre set at 40#-45#psi. Very simple ideas that are proven to work, as you can see by the healthy mums pictured.
  • If you have other proven ways of watering mums and would like to share them, then please use the comment section below and share your methods with us.
  • Always do your best,
