Excavator Work – Laying Our Water Lines…

Share This Post With A Friend

More excavator work to finish laying our water lines. Last fall we started this project and bad weather set in. Since then we’ve been so busy and haven’t had the time to finish until now.

As you can see in the pictures below I rented and hauled in a Kubota Excavator, then started digging. With a great deal of digging across our driveway, the process doesn’t go near as fast as what it does in dirt.

As you see in the pictures above, our cabin is in the background, which is where I’m headed with the trench for water line and electric.

Excavator Work – Front Pasture

Going across our field (over 1/4 mile) headed toward the front of our property where the new water meter is located is much easier digging. Our property has lots of clay which makes for much tougher digging, but still easier and faster than the driveway.

Since we have such cold winters I decided to dig and bury our water lines 4′ instead of the recommended 3′ minimum. This way we will never have to worry about freeze ups or other problems.

Don’t forget to add extra dirt after trenching. Once you start filling your trenches back in, make sure and add extra dirt to allow for settling. If you just level everything off, it will settle and you will have a sagging trench.

Materials We Used In Following Post

In the next update post of this project we will share our list of materials used, as well as pictures. We could have done this job cheaper, but we decided to use the best water lines and fittings on the market for underground use, which pretty much eliminates any problems on down the road.

Sometimes it pays to use the better stuff!
