Breaking Ground – Building New Home While Living In RV…

Share This Post With A Friend

Right before this last rain yesterday I had started Breaking Ground for our new home here at Pin Oaks Farm.

You may have read in previous post or even seen videos of our off Grid adventure here on the property, running off of generators and hauling our water. Some things have changed since late last year, but not everything. We have done enough trenching before bad winter weather caught us and for some electric lines ran underground, but still no water.

Although we have some water lines ran underground with the electric, we still have 1/4 mile to trench and run water lines and set a meter. So yes, we are still hauling our water from town to the farm. Sometimes it can be a little bit of a hassle, it isn’t that bad.

These types of situations have made us realize how good we use to have it in someways, but also how much a person takes things for granted. On the flip side of all this, we also have realized that the fast paced city life sucks, and we are glad to be away from all of it.

Below are a few Breaking Ground photos

Breaking GroundBreaking GroundI’m sure you’ve noticed in the photos that it has rained again and now it will need to dry out a little bit before digging anymore. It was already on the verge of being to muddy and wet to dig, but now it is a given.

Breaking Ground is just the start of this lengthy home building project. There are so many other things to get done and projects to finish that this home building project will get put on hold many times before we ever finish.

Although we want to have it finished as soon as possible, we are not in any big hurry. Living the RV Lifestyle isn’t that bad at all since there is just the two of us, and honestly…it works fine! We’ve had the big fancy house and just don’t need that anymore. We both came from very simple family’s, and honestly that is what we are getting back to and the way we want to keep it.

Simple Lifestyle – Low Cost Living

Fancy big homes, high dollar luxury cars may be your thing, and once was mine too, but not anymore. If you’ve ever lived on a farm and witnessed living the country life, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you are a city slicker, then you have no clue…and that is alright. It’s just like eating out all the time…which we use to do. Honestly, from a financial stand point, it doesn’t make good sense at all. Eating out all of the time is also a very unhealthy choice that we gave up. We would rather invest our money into something that will make us money (like our farm). There is nothing wrong with any of this, but isn’t for us. Sure we eat out some, but not every night. Maybe once or twice a month…tops.

In the city or town you very seldom see stars in the sky at night. You have very little privacy and you always hear dogs barking and people fighting. In the country, you hear coyotes howling at the moon, raccoons fighting, frogs and other wildlife sounds. You see lots of falling stars and beautiful moonlit nights with all the privacy you could ever ask for. If you want to go outdoors and take a leak, well you can do that too and not worry about the neighbors calling the cops and then getting busted for indecent exposure…Lol.

While breaking ground for our new home is exciting, we also have many other exciting projects. Believe it or not, more of these projects that take priority over the breaking Ground or home building project.

What Could Possibly Be More Important?

  • Getting our crops planted.
  • Finishing our raised bed gardens and getting everything planted in them.
  • Taking care of the livestock we have and seeing to it that they have everything they need first.
  • Preparing our fifth wheel for summer and hot weather.
  • Getting our water lines ran and rural water hooked up.
  • Finishing our cabin project right away (for backup emergency stays if needed)…like Our Camping World Experience we paid dearly for.
  • Getting trenching done across the pond damn before we get to far into the home building process.
  • And of course, daily life.

A fairly long list above of things that believe it or not that take front seat over building our new home. Making sure we can trench across the pond damn is a huge priority before going to far with the home building project. What if we was unable to dig through all of the huge rock that is in the pond damn? What if we had to dig through the creek and then couldn’t do that? Might have to reconsider our location site?

Road Blocks and Hurtles

There will always be road blocks and hurtles when doing anything like what we are doing. It’s how you handle the road blocks and hurtles that matters and in the end make the difference.

More pictures and videos will follow as we get back to breaking Ground and especially start trenching our way across the pond damn. And reasons why you want to add extra dirt after trenching.

The picture below is just one of so many beautiful views we would have from our current home building location. This is what we would be looking at daily from this spot we’ve chose…and this is why we chose it more than any other reason.
