I love the spring colors as trees start budding out and the grass starts getting the deep green look.
Some of the specialist were reporting how the early spring weather we was having the last few months could be harmful for trees. Basically they was saying it would “kill everything” because winter wasn’t over and more freezes were on the way. The unusually nice weather we was having at that time was encouraging trees and grass to start budding and greening for spring.
Foliar buds are more resistant to cold damage than flowering buds, but may still experience some browning or misshapen leaves. Once the plant has fully leafed out, the freeze damage may not even be visible. It does drain the carbohydrate resources of the plant to produce a second flush of leaves, but some tender care on your part will help it replenish those resources over the next growing season.
Pin Oak Trees

I’m happy to report that our Pin Oak trees and our Blue Spruce trees are budding out and doing very well. To be honest, we was a little concerned for awhile though. After a walk around the property this evening confirmed our trees are doing great.
Below is one of our many blue spruce trees along our front fence and road. These trees are amazing. The picture below will show you the deep green/blue looks is coming on strong and the tips are really budding out nicely.
Spring Colors In May
Yesterday I was pasture mowing and really noticing the deep green grass and all of the beautiful spring colors all around me. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year. Cooler evenings, warmer days and not much humidity.
Last fall one of our blue spruce trees had bag worms 🐛 in the worst way. We picked all of the bag worms off and then sprayed this tree and all of the others as well. There was concerns whether or not this tree would survive because of the poor condition it was in. After a walk through this evening and looking at all the spruce trees, this once poor condition tree is doing well.
Bag Worm Blue Spruce Tree
Looks good doesn’t it. If you would have seen this tree last fall I’m sure you would have thought it was going to die. As you can see in the above photo, this blue spruce tree is filling out, getting greener, and the tips are budding out. This tree is going to make it! 😊
If you have any kind of spruce trees, keep an eye on them. Check them regularly for bag worms 🐛 and don’t allow them to get infected before doing something. Bag worms are the number one killer of these spruce trees, so take good care of them.
What Gets Rid Of Bag Worms?
Either of these products below work well. I like the Spinosad the best. Bayer also makes a good bag worm killer that works well. The Spinosad shown above is one of the most environment friendly ones I’ve found…and effective!
Leave your comments below and let me know what your favorite time of year is. Are you into the spring colors like me, or do you like fall colors better?
Always do your best,
