In this blog post we wanted to share a video of the tools and cheap Saw blades we use for our off grid projects. When you are using as much reclaimed lumber as what we do, you don’t want to use high dollar saw blades for this type of cutting. See why we use $9 saw blades instead of expensive $20-$40 saw blades.
Check out the video below:
In the video above I mentioned the Dewalt impact driver being a 20 amp. I meant to say 20 volt. It is a 20 volt Dewalt impact driver.
My entire Dewalt kit of 20 volt tools include:
- Impact driver shown in video
- Flashlight/worklight
- Reciprocating saw
- 1/2″ drill driver
- 12v/20 volt charger
This Dewalt 20 volt set is bad to the 🍖 bone! The battery life is incredible. And the power is totally amazing. It will drive screws right through wood, and literally twist them off if you aren’t careful. My previous Dewalt 18 volt set was amazing too, but this 20 volt is even more powerful and way better battery life than that of the 18 volt.
Tools and Cheap Saw Blades is something that is a must for building things and doing projects like we do. The tools can be any brand. I just like Dewalt and Ridgid saws and other construction tools, such as drills and impact drivers.
When it comes to working with reclaimed lumber, using Cheap Saw Blades are a must. You are dealing with lumber that has had nails and screws in it and there is a likelihood of broken off nails and screws that you cannot see. Why trash out $20-$40 Saw Blades when you can use $9 blades that are just as good?
What Is The Difference Between Cheap and Expensive Saw Blades?
The biggest difference is the cheaper ones will not hold their sharp teeth as long as the more expensive Saw Blades, but they will still do a great job and last longer than you may think. Yes, you do get what you pay for.
Tools and Cheap Saw Blades are something that is used daily here at Pin Oaks Farm and on other construction jobs that I do elsewhere. I’ve had cheap tools before and will never use them again. For part timers they are fine, but for a full time tool user like myself, the better tools like Dewalt and Ridgid are an absolute must!
I don’t care to be in the middle of a job and then have to stop and run to town and purchase another cheap tool that had quit working. The old saying is often right…”You Get What You Pay For”. Don’t get me wrong, there Re cheaper tools that are of good quality and will last most people a long time. But for me, Dewalt and Ridgid are the tools of my choice. I’ve had great luck with them and will continue to use them.
Free Firewood and Reclaimed Lumber
These tornado’s that rolled through our area were violent and left so much cleanup for many people to deal with. For us it was kind of a blessing. It made us realize how bad we really need a good FEMA approved tornado shelter here at Pin Oaks Farm and also the lumber and firewood it has produced for us and our projects.
The reclaimed lumber the storms left behind is helping us. It only build our projects for zero cost, but also accumulate piles and piles of good quality lumber for our house building project.
So in the pictures below you can see tools and Cheap Saw Blades as well as reclaimed lumber from the storms and free firewood. Firewood for us is a must here on the farm. It is our main source of heat that we rely on daily. It not only heats our shop, but also it heats our fifth wheel camper (RV) which is inside our shop for the winter months.

P.S. In the next blog post I will share a video with you on how to set the red laser on your Ridgid Miter Saw. Don’t have a Ridgid Miter Saw? We’ll share it with someone who does have one. This laser isn’t hard to set unless you have never done it before and then it can be a little bit tricky. In this video I will share “step by step” how to set this laser which will make your cutting chores a cinch. ✅
