Add Extra Dirt After Trenching…

Why should you Add Extra Dirt After Trenching?

Very simple, and it will make more sense when you see the pictures below.

The ground will settle a great deal, especially in the wet seasons. On our main driveway I wasn’t able to leave the extra dirt and rock on top of the trench due to the fact that it is a driveway that we use daily…

However, many places in the driveway that doesn’t have as much rock settled after all the snow and rain we’ve had and it has created problems. The areas that I was able to leave extra dirt and rock on top of the trench has settled and can now be leveled off once it drys out more.

As you can see in the top picture above here there is extra dirt and rock left on top of the trench. And it has settled some and can now be leveled off once it drys out some more.

The bottom picture above you can see how it settled and has created very low places that cannot be driven over in our car now. It is deeper than it looks in this photo.

The solution is simple though. Once it drys out more I will simply take the extra dirt and rock from the other places where I left extra and blade it out across the other areas of the trench where all the settling has occurred.

Add Extra Dirt After Trenching is always advised if it is in an area that is possible to do so. This will prevent what you see in the lower picture above. These trenches are over 4′ deep in places and they will settle, especially in the really wet seasons like we are experiencing right now.

Just by mounding up more dirt on top of your trench when you cover it back up will prevent the cave ins and make your drive or road more usable. Add Extra Dirt After Trenching!

I should have done it in all areas but didn’t. So next time I will for sure to prevent the sink holes and settling trenches as seen in the lower picture above.

If I didn’t make mistakes once and awhile I would never learn anything new…Lol.

Always do your best,
