Sweet Corn Planted – Even With Rain Delays…

Share This Post With A Friend

The last week during all of the rains, I’ve still managed to get our sweet corn planted – even with rain delays.

As you can see in the photos below, the winter wheat/cover crop is turning colors. I sprayed the wheat to kill it and planted the sweet corn right through it.

This wheat cover crop method works well, especially for helping keep the unwanted grasses and weeds out of our sweet corn crop.

I can and will spray for weeds, grasses and bugs some, but once the corn is tall enough I can’t drive through the rows, then that’s it for spraying. We use I high end seed corn, that is resistant to bugs, worms and insects that damage corn. This helps us to not have to spray on the corn, which I’m totally against. We prefer the organic methods, which are not near as effective, but much better for safety and health reasons.

I will post more pictures once the corn starts growing.

Talk soon,
