In this post I wanted to share the Before and After Pictures of Our Little Farm so that you can see the transformation.
When we first came to look at this property it was a grown up jungle. There was tree limbs hanging down on the ground when we came here. The grass was taller than the bumpers on my 4×4 pickup and the roses thickets were taking over.
I literally spent days with our Oliver 1800 and a 10′ brush hog mowing down the grown up mess clearing out places for us to park our fifth wheel camper and our vehicles.
Many people might not have seen the potential of this hidden jewel property, but might wife and I sure did. As I have mentioned before, this wasn’t our first rodeo. This wasn’t our first time being on the farm. We both grew up on farms and knew that this could be like a state park with some TLC. So that is exactly what we started giving this new hidden gem of ours once we got moved here…
We worked daily cleaning up all the junk laying around, clearing our unwanted brush and mowing everything down close with the brush hog and tractor. Then we came back with my big Scag Zero turn mower to really start grooming this into a show piece.

Our Little Piece Of Paradise
Here ya go…
Above is the first time we actually pulled into the main entrance of this property. See how low those Pin Oak trees down the lane/driveway are hanging? The grass was very tall and thick you couldn’t see much of anything.
In these before and after pictures of our little farm I think you will see a huge transformation in our place.
In this picture above is after the first day with the Oliver tractor and 10′ brush hog knocking down the heavy grass around the entrance and around the beautiful pin oak trees that have been in hiding for a long time…
I immediately wanted to get some post holes dug and some heavy post set for the new entrance gate. I also wanted to get “Posted…Keep Out” signs up right away to turn this property into our private domain…our little piece of paradise.
This property had been unattended for so long that many different people had access to it for the fishing and hunting, and we wanted that to end and let everyone know that pulled up here that something had changed and to “Keep Out”.
Notice out behind our fifth wheel how the grass is grown up and all the little trees trying to take over? In this picture I had just mowed enough to get us here and set up. Now you will starting seeing the before and after pictures of our little farm and the huge difference in just a few days of a little mowing.
Before and After Pictures of Our Little Farm
I am sure by now you can see the huge transformation. Our off grid journey has been so much fun and a bit challenging at times. All summer we have ran off of generators and hauled water. We haven’t had the luxury of electricity from a power company until just recently, and still have no rural water. We haul our water and gravity feed it into our fifth wheel.
These before and after pictures of our little farm show how it has went from rough to clean looking. We saw the potential here unlike others didn’t and took full advantage of it.
This rock feature above and the brick patio below was so covered up with grass and brush and almost impossible to see. In our daily cleanups we have just kept uncovering all kinds of cool things that we didn’t even realize was there when we first looked at this property.
In the picture right above here you will notice how I took a hedge tree and shaped it into mailbox stand.
Notice the fork of this mail box stand and how I used my chain saw to customize it for our mailbox to sit down into. Next I drilled through the log for a huge bolt to hold the wagon wheels in place.
Many of our friends and a few family members saw this property before we touched it. Now they cannot believe that it is the same place.
Our little piece of paradise is a work in progress. We give it love and it gives us love right back. π
As always, please feel free to leave comments below. Show us some love and share this post and website with your friends as well.
Always do your best,
-Mike and Rhonda Pilcher
